Wow! What an awesome first week in our class (frequently referred to as "THE SWAMP")!!! On Monday, we all were very excited to get back in the swing of things. We organized all of our supplies and settled at our new desks. Many of us were surprised to see so many familiar faces. The students all welcomed me to Woodward with open arms. At lunch, we socialized with our past teachers, and I even got reports that my students were excited about 5th grade!! Throughout the week, we set up our interactive notebooks for our subjects (Reading, Math, and Science). We especially enjoyed preparing our reading notebooks using pictures of friends, family, and cliparts of hobbies we are interested in.
On Wednesday, we joined Ms. Davidson's class for a super fun science lab activity focusing on making observations, inferences, and predictions! Ms. D and I brought in some bags of trash we took from our new neighbors :-p and asked all of the students to help us figure out who these people were! Even our principal, Ms. Godbee, and assistant principal, Mr. Korkus, came to help out! It was a stinky, grimy, but fun lab! Ask your children what the twist at the end was ;-)
We started reading Mudshark, by Gary Paulsen. It's a great book about a 12 year old boy, with a photographic memory, who helps all of his friends and teachers solve mysterious happenings around school. We can't wait to find out next week what has been happening in the faculty restroom, who stole all of the erasers and why, and what type of animal is Mr. Patterson actually chasing around the school?
It was a very exciting first week and there are many more exciting adventures to come this year in 5th grade! Great job this week, Superstars!!
