This is my 6th
year teaching, and
in all the open houses I have been priveledged to be apart of, this year's was definitely the BEST! I have never met so many awesome family members of my students as I did this week. I was so excited to see that my students had so much support from their families. It's important to remember that the parents are just as instrumental in their child's academic success as the teacher. I am very excited for the rest of this school year.
For open house, the students prepared something unique for the parents. They all made "paper people", as you can see above. Can you recognize your son or daughter? The kids did an amazing job! What an awesome classroom for the parents to see. All the "students" (made of paper, haha) were up straight, quiet, and ready for the evening to take place. It was a lot of fun making paper people. Even I made a paper teacher.
At Open House, I prepared seven centers for the families to navigate through. In the slide show below, you can watch how the progression took place. In addition to opening up the room for the parents to live the life in "the swamp", I also had a slide show of pictures of the students this year playing on the screen for everyone to watch.
The most popular, and fun, station was "Estimation Station". This was a fun spot for everyone to take a shot at guessing how many candy corns were in the cup! I must've had 100 guesses to go through. The winner came down to three guesses. Two at 230, and one guessed 231. Can you believe one of those was the exact amount?!? Check them out below:
