What a great second week! On Monday we started our first Literacy Circle book titled Peter and the Starcatchers! It's a fast-paced, adventure story, prequel to to the popular children's story, Peter Pan. In class, we are having book talks, and working in our interactive literacy circle notebooks to really engage our minds and understand the characters and story elements a little deeper. After our 3-day weekend, we will already be on chapter 14!! From what I hear, students just want to keep reading because the story is "soooo good!"
In science, we continued to gain a good understanding of the differences between observations, inferences, and predictions. We worked really hard in our notebooks all week on various activities focused on increasing our scientific processing capabilities.
On Friday, when we walked into the classroom, we were quite surprised! There was a crime scene! It was taped off with caution tape and even Miss Crandall wasn't allowed to cross into the scene to write our morning work or date on the board. After the regular morning announcements, we decided to become true CSI's and solve this classroom crime ourselves! Using our ability to make observations, we collected 17 pieces of evidence from the scene to aid us in making inferences about who the criminal was and exactly what he/she did in our classroom. It was such a fun morning full of science! We were just like the real CSI's who solve real crimes! We predicted exactly who the culprit was! Click on the science button on our class home page to see pictures and find out who the guilty criminal was. :-)
All in all, it was a really fun week in Miss Crandall's swamp....I mean, class! We can't wait for next week to come. A little preview: we are starting long division, the scientific process, and continuing to read Peter and the Starcatchers. Oh, and I should mention, Mudshark is finally going to solve all the mysteries at his school!
Have an awesome 3-day weekend!!!!
