We have been so busy in "The Swamp"! Recently, we have continued working in science on the scientific process. Labs we have completed in the past couple weeks include: "How to make a sandwich" (PBJ procedures) and Pop, Pop, Pop, POPCORN!!! In Math, students took over, created, and taught their own lesson plans to each other. In reading we have tackled plot development, setting, and main idea and details. In social studies, we worked on geography, learning about the eastern and western hemispheres and where we live.
We have started a new read aloud in our class. Jerry Spinelli's "Crash" is a great story about John 'Crash' Coogan who has a "personality conflict" with his neighbor and classmate, Penn Webb. Crash is an aggressive by nature, competitive, football player, who bullies Penn. Penn is the outgoing, chatty boy who drives Crash crazy. So far, we love the story! We are excited to see what we can learn from these two boys in the next few weeks.
Speaking of books, last week we had our first Scholastic Book Fair at Woodward Avenue Elementary. It was a GIANT success, and I have a HUGE thank you to send out to the parents and students who graciously donated brand NEW books to our class. We had a grand total of 27 books donated to enhance our classroom library. I couldn't make our classroom what it is without the parents and their contributions, so this "thank you" is truly from the bottom of my heart and I, and the students, greatly appreciate you!!! See the picture below of all of our new titles!
Did your children share with you...we had the GREAT DIVIDE! We now have the "Semi-Gators" and the "Kickball Kings". We are working hard to earn points for our teams for good behavior, positive interactions, passing reading counts quizzes, earning high grades, and being responsible. Go teams!
This coming week, we have plans to become engineers in science; take apart Katy Perry and Miley Cyrus songs to aid us in learning theme; and we are taking our first District Interim Assessments on division, and the scientific process.
